Interactive question formats

Rank the rows. Drag the slider to the value. Click the cell that answers the question. Adjust the bar to the level the data implies. These are the answer formats SHL Verify Interactive and other next-generation assessments use, and no amount of multiple-choice practice prepares you for them.

The difficulty is not the maths, it is that the safety net is gone. Five options tell you the answer is one of five values; a slider tells you nothing. Ranking is unforgiving in a way candidates underestimate — swap two adjacent rows and the item is simply wrong, with no partial credit.

Common questions

What is an interactive question?

One where you answer by manipulating something rather than picking an option: ordering rows, dragging a slider to a value, clicking the right cell, or adjusting a bar to a level. There is no option list to eliminate from, so you have to produce the answer.

Which tests use these formats?

SHL's Verify Interactive (G+) is the best-known, and interactive item types are spreading across next-generation assessments generally as publishers move away from formats that are easy to look up.

Why are they harder than multiple choice?

Multiple choice tells you the answer is one of five values, which is information. A slider does not. Ranking is harder still, because a single transposition costs the whole item — partial credit is not usually given.

Can I practise these for free?

Yes — one 4-question block is open with no account. The full pool of 110 questions across 40 data sets is part of the lifetime upgrade.
